The waste that we receive is processed and sorted effectively at our depot. Read more about the waste recycling processes that we undertake.
While we already recycle 98% of the waste that is delivered to us, our aim is to recycle 100%. We are always looking to see how we can improve our processes and reach this goal.
Waste-to-energy (WTE) is a process by which solid waste is converted into electricity, heat, or fuel. This process is also known as waste-to-energy conversion or energy recovery from waste. It is an alternative to traditional waste management methods such as landfilling, which does not offer any energy recovery benefits.
Here at Blackpole Recycling Ltd, we are experts in recycling and waste management and a huge part of that is ensuring that waste is recycled into new products or renewable energy.
From 1st September 2023, there was a notable shift in the UK’s approach to handling and recycling wood waste. This change has been guided by approximately five years of meticulous research and testing conducted by the Wood Recyclers' Association (WRA). It entails identifying ten types of wood recycling items, predominantly sourced from structures built before 2007, as potential hazardous materials.
Individuals and businesses handling wood waste recycling items - like external doors and roof timber from structures erected before 2007 - must adapt to this regulatory alteration. Learn how Blackpole Recycling is evolving to comply with the new rules to keep our environment clean.
At Blackpole Recycling in Worcester, we persist in our quest to optimise wood recycling and disposal, a journey that has seen us invest in a new shredder from Warwick Ward Machinery Ltd. This state-of-the-art apparatus not only expedites the wood recycling process but also has the prowess to convert waste to energy, highlighting our commitment to fostering a circular economy.

The way we manage sofa disposal, and the processing of other upholstered items here in the UK has fundamentally changed due to new legislation from the Environment Agency that came into effect from 1st January 2023.
Whilst the Persistent Organic Pollutants Regulations (POPs) have been in place since 2007, the Environment Agency has now clarified that it will measure waste compliance against these regulations. The new regulations mean that upholstered domestic seating containing POPs cannot be disposed of in a landfill and must be incinerated.
